Principal – Strategic Pricing/Market Access
Position Summary
Company is seeking a senior level hire with extensive prior experience and demonstrated success in the field of Strategic Pricing, Access and Reimbursement for pharma/biotech products with knowledge and appreciation of the importance of health economic considerations and the use of health economic models.
Ideal candidate has 10+ years in the pharma/biotech industry with both prior relevant pricing/market access consulting experience and industry experience. Other relevant qualifications include:
Relevant Master’s degree (MBA, MPH, MPP, Masters/PhD in Economics)
EU experience valued
The successful candidate will work closely with company’s Leadership Team, Senior Management Team and Strategies, Pricing, Access, Reimbursement & Contracting (SPARC) & HEOR teams to grow this important strategic capability
In their role, this individual will help develop, drive and help direct execution of Strategic Pricing & Access projects – with a focus on the US
Position Requirements
Expert level knowledge in how drugs and biologics are strategically priced, to maximize / optimize financial goals for the manufacturer
Appropriate balance between revenue maximization and access
Identification of key inflection points to minimize risk to the business / franchise
Expertise in payer and organized customer groups and ability to articulate key differences between Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid
Demonstrated success in strategically pricing drugs and biologics in the US, and getting positive / desired coverage both on the Commercial and CMS side
Deep understanding of price sensitivity of coverage and utilization controls payers adopt to manage costs / limit cost impact
Solid understanding of how healthcare coverage, access and reimbursement works in the US and the interplay between various stakeholder types (e.g. national / regional MCOs, IDNs, PBMs, ACOs, etc.)
Expertise in both medical benefit and pharmacy benefit coverage
Familiarity with Ex-US drug pricing & reimbursement systems
Demonstrated capabilities in value-based pricing and value determination
Expertise in how market access teams work and perspective on how the role of market access is evolving for pharma and biotech
Capabilities in payer research, access, evidence generation including primary market research with payers
Understanding of evolving US Medicare & Medicaid landscape (e.g., MACRA, APMs) and implications for the biopharma industry
Relevant contacts to drive business development in the SPARC area
Comfort in addressing potentially sensitive recommendations with senior executives
Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others in and across the organization to accomplish team goals
Ability to balance Company’s recommendation with needs and expectations of the company/client Additional Experience (Preferred)
Experience with GPOs and Contract Design
Comprehensive knowledge of government pricing calculations and reporting in the US (e.g., ASP, AMP, best price determination, etc.)
HEOR experience especially on the economics of Access and Reimbursement e.g. CE modeling, BIM development, etc.
Ability to drive business development for HEOR activities (e.g., publication, HTAs, BIM, AMCP dossier) • Submissions and value demonstration to institutions / influential bodies e.g. hospital systems / AMCP / ASCO
Experience developing and/or implementing outcomes-based, innovative, or other value-based contracts in the US or abroad
US/EU healthcare policy experience & connections with government payers / CMS etc.
